Special Olympics Oman organises event in Dhofar to promote rights of people with disabilities

Salalah--- Dhofar Governorate’s branch of Special Olympics Oman association today organized an event titled “Introducing Omani Special Olympics and the Rights of People with Disabilities”.

Held at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah, the event aimed to convey Special Olympics Oman’s message which envisages the establishment of a more inclusive society where human dignity is preserved and human energies are invested in a manner that enables people with disabilities to become active partners in the process of domestic development.

The event aimed to introduce Special Olympics Oman association, review its mission, activities and programmes and its role in empowering people with intellectual disabilities and engage them in sports and social activities, in addition to raising public awareness of their rights.

The event also highlighted the achievements of Omani special Olympics athletes.

The event included working papers presented by experts from Oman Human Rights Commission about Special Olympics Oman, in addition to a documentary about the achievements of people with disabilities and the resourcefulness of members of society.

Nayef bin Ahmed Al Shanfari, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of Special Olympics Oman, said, “This meeting is the outcome of cooperation between Special Olympics Oman association and Oman Human Rights Commission. The event underlines the two organizations’ efforts to promote public awareness about the rights of people with disabilities.”
