Oman Sail high-performance training camp concludes in Mussanah

Muscat: Oman Sail’s high-performance training camp in Mussanah has officially drawn to a successful close. The intensive programme brought together key Omani sailors across the 49er and 29er fleets to sharpen tactical decision-making, refine boat handling, and build peak physical conditioning with the upcoming 2026 Asian Games in Japan. 

Capitalising on Mussanah’s world-class facilities and reliable wind conditions, which mirror those expected in Gamagori, the sailors underwent rigorous on-water drills alongside comprehensive video analysis and fitness sessions. The camp focused on accelerating technical proficiency in high-speed skiff racing, reinforcing strong crew communication, and evaluating performance metrics under high-pressure scenarios. 

The high-performance roster featured dedicated 49er sailors Ahmed Ghareeb Al Hasani and Waleed Issa Al Kindi, alongside 29er sailors Feras Haitham Al Nabhani and Tamim Sulaiman Al Balushi, working under the direct guidance of 29er Coach Zakarya Sulaiman Al Wahabi.

Hashim Al Rashdi, Head Coach Performance at Oman Sail, said, "The conclusion of this training camp in Mussanah marks a significant step forward in our high-performance pathway. Our focus throughout the week was on executing technical consistency and mastering strategic positioning. The dedication and work ethic shown by our 49er and 29er sailors have been outstanding, and the performance gains made here set a strong benchmark as we transition into our competitive cycle." 

Zakarya Sulieman Al Wahabi, 29er Coach, added, "Mussanah continues to provide the ideal training ground for our sailors to push their limits. Working closely with young talents like Feras and Tamim in the 29er, alongside our experienced 49er sailors Ahmed and Waleed, allowed us to foster a highly competitive and collaborative environment. The progress in boat speed, manoeuvring, and tactical confidence over the course of the camp has been extremely encouraging."

The completed camp forms an integral part of Oman Sail’s broader mission to nurture national talent, elevate performance standards on the international stage, and reinforce the Sultanate’s position as a premier global sailing hub. 

The team will travel to Japan ahead of the official opening of the Asian Games on 15 September 2026.
