Oman hosts regional aviation safety meetings in Muscat

Muscat: The eighth meeting of the Safety Enhancement Implementation Group (SEIG/8) and the National Continuous Monitoring Coordinators Meeting (NCMC) began in Muscat on Sunday. Hosted by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) from 11 to 13 October, the meetings are being held in cooperation with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Middle East Regional Office.

The meetings bring together representatives from Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Sudan, Egypt, Libya, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Jordan and Nigeria, along with representatives from ICAO and the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

The meetings address key issues relating to aviation safety performance and priorities in the Middle East region. Discussions include follow-up on the outcomes and decisions of the 13th meeting of the Middle East Regional Aviation Safety Group (RASG-MID/13), as well as a review of progress in implementing safety enhancement initiatives outlined in the Middle East Regional Aviation Safety Plan (MID-RASP) for 2026–2028.

The agenda also covers progress in developing and implementing National Aviation Safety Plans (NASPs) and State Safety Programmes (SSPs), updates on the Continuous Monitoring Approach (CMA) under the Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme (USOAP-CMA), and experiences shared by national continuous monitoring coordinators from participating states, including challenges and best practices.

The meetings will also examine existing challenges and next steps, alongside the future work programme for improving aviation safety across the region.

Hosting the meetings is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen regional cooperation, facilitate the exchange of aviation safety expertise, and enhance states’ capabilities in safety oversight and the implementation of aviation safety programmes.
