TRA organises dialogue session on potecting children in digital environments

Muscat: The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) on Wednesday organiszed a session of dialogue with telecommunications service users. Titled "Protecting Children in the Digital Environments", the initiative aimed to enhance transparency, foster direct communication with members of the public and engage users and stakeholders in the development of regulatory and legislative frameworks in the Sultanate of Oman.

The session saw a large turnout of participants and lively response from various segments of society, including parents, academics, specialists and experts in the fields of telecommunications and technology. It aimed to study the perspectives and aspirations of the segments concerned, with the prime objective of devising more efficient regulatory solutions tailored to meet the needs of Omani families and society.

During the session, the TRA pointed out that protecting children in the digital environment is a shared societal responsibility rooted in public awareness and transparent dialogue.

The TRA noted that “the dialogue session serves as a platform for exchanging insights and proposals, understanding the digital challenges faced by young people and their families, setting strategic priorities and developing a comprehensive Omani regulatory framework that enhances the protection of children and ensures that their electronic interactions take place in a safe and reliable digital environment.

The programme included discussion sessions focusing on key themes: digital literacy, public awareness, moral guidance and potential risks within the digital landscape.

The event also included an exhibition showcasing various initiatives and tools designed for the protection of children engaged in digital environments. This provided attendees with an overview of technical mechanisms aimed to minimize cyber risks and neutralise the dangers of unsafe web browsing.

It is worth noting that the TRA will review and analyse all recommendations, insights and proposals made at the conclusion of the session. This process reflects a genuine partnership between the TRA and its affiliates in building a secure and empowered digital society.
