Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has announced urgent measures following a poisoning incident linked to contaminated bottled water, which resulted in the death of an expatriate woman and the hospitalisation of a citizen in North Al Batinah Governorate.
According to the ROP, the incident occurred on 29 September 2025 in the Wilayat of Al Suwaiq, after victims consumed bottled water imported from the Islamic Republic of Iran. Laboratory analysis confirmed that the water was contaminated.
The expatriate woman passed away, while the Omani citizen was admitted to hospital in critical condition but has since recovered. The ROP immediately coordinated with the concerned authorities, collected samples for testing, and began investigations into the incident.
Authorities have now ordered the withdrawal of all bottles of that brand from local markets and implemented precautionary measures to safeguard public health.
In addition, the relevant government bodies have imposed a ban on the import of all bottled water originating from Iran.
The Royal Oman Police has urged citizens and residents to avoid using the contaminated brand and to promptly report any suspicions regarding bottled water or other consumables to the concerned authorities.
